Historical Overview

“GURUKUL” was founded in 1912 by Swami Nityanandji and Late Dr. Kalyandas Desai with an aim to revive the ancient Hindu Educational System of Gurukul ashram. The impetus was drawn from the teachings and activities of Swami Dayanand Saraswati founder of Arya Samaj.
1912: The foundation stone was laid at Deolali, in the bungalow of Late Shri Ranchhoddas Lotawala
1938: The Ghatkopar plot for “Gurukul” was donated by Late Smt Maniben Talajawala.

1941: The foundation stone of the Gurukul Ashram was laid by the then Home minister Late Shri Kanhaiyalal Munshi and freedom fighter, social reformer Shri Veer Savarkar. The Gurukul Ashram went on to become the integral part of Mumbai Pradesh Arya Vidya Sabha (MPAVS).
Present: Gurukul Educational Institutions has 17 institutions under its umbrella, offering education right from nursery till post-graduation studies, also providing technical and vocational courses and a niche for Special Children.

Mumbai Pradesh Arya Vidya Sabha has always catered to the need of the times as far as education is concerned, being pioneers in starting schools in Gujarati and English Medium for higher education.
Milestones provide direction and clarity to the journey, so also the Gurukul ethos will continue to carry an extremely high level of commitment in pursuit of serving the society and humanity at large, with utmost zeal.
